With the increase in the number of 5G-compatible smartphones along with the expansion of 5G coverage, it is expected that a majority of consumers will be able to access 5G services by the end of 2020.
Currently, 5G service is offered by Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, and AT&T. Even though these telecom giants started offering 5G service in late 2019, consumers were urged to hold-off their plans to buy a 5G phone because the service is still relatively spotty. Instead, users can add 5G service to your plan and wait until the service is perfected, which will be improved and functional by the end of 2020, according to experts.

Verizon in 13 cities

Previously, Verizon was offering 5G service in ten cities, including Atlanta, Detroit, Indianapolis, and Washington. In September 2019, Verizon expanded its 5G service to cover New York City, Panama City, and Boise, increasing the number of cities under their 5G network coverage to 13. The expansion of Verizon’s 5G service is abundantly evident in New York, where several boroughs are already covered by the network. On September 26, 2019, Verizon’s customers living in Manhattan, the Bronx, and Brooklyn could access 5G with some users reporting download speeds of up to 1.2Gbps.
